@cbokman7 This is a terrific resource. I am about to start studying for step 2 CK because I am about to finish my internal medicine rotation and this is the plan I am going to follow. Thanks for posting this! ;)

Question for you: What do you think the biggest differences were between FA step 2 and MTB (master the boards)? I have both books and I am not sure which to use because I don't want to spread myself too thin. I also have Step-up to Medicine - is that any good for step 2 prep?
  2. pepino
@Matty Gold I would have to say that MTB was a bit weak in obgyn and maybe peds. Also, that book really focuses on the best 'FIRST' step. However, on the real test, a lot of questions already have the 'first' step already done, and are asking for step 2, 3, 4, etc. The best way to prep for that, in my opinion, is to just see a bunch of questions, and really understand how to manage patients from A-Z (I felt UpToDate was a good resource for this).

Also, on the real test, don't forget that giving someone with a PE a nasal canula obviously comes before giving heparin, even tough we've been taught to always start heparin immediately (I doubt any study aid will have nasal canula as the first step).

If I had to choose, I'd choose FA>MTB, although neither is that great.

    Good luck!

@pepino I heard you got a really really high score on step2, would you mind adding your study plan for others to see and compare to mine? Thank youuuu :):):):)

@cbokman7 just took my first NBME! Where do I find explanations of wrong answers? I got the extended version but it still doesn't explain.
  5. cbokman7
The NBME extended version only shows you the questions you got wrong, and it doesn't tell you what the correct answer is nor does it explain why your answer is wrong. They do this for one of two reasons: either 1. they are lazy, or 2. the questions they make up are so similar to the real exam that explaining and giving the correct answer would be like giving away the actual test, and all their secrets.

When taking the test, I would recommend taking screenshots of all the questions - so even the ones you were unsure about that you got right and can't see later, you have the screenshot to verify that your intuition was right. For the wrong ones, that you have without explanations, I used to go to just plain old Google and start typing in the question, and then it would bring me to a forum somewhat like this where people who start a discussion about the questions - hard tedious work, but worth it because it's valuable to go over the test and lookup your wrongs.

What I would do is start a new thread on this forum called NBME # for step 2 CK and post some of the questions you have about the test. You can also try googling the questions and answers to see if someone else has posted them somewhere. I am happy to help discuss them along with the other people on the forum! I know this is a long answer to a simple question, but the NBMEs are still worth it to see how you are doing on your study plan. ;)

@Mallory McInnes I have records of almost all the correct answers for NBME 4, 6, and 7. I suggest you start a thread as @cbokman7 mentioned, and post your questions. I'll answer what I can. I will also be creating threads with all the questions and answers (eventually), it just takes a while to type them all out.

Hi I will be writing questions I am not sure of. Kindly help me as soon as you can.

This is from NBME block 7 clinical science.

A 63 YEAR OLD COMES TO THE PHYSICIAN BECAUSE OF INTERMITTENT PAINLESS RECTAL BLEEDING OVER THE PAST 3 WEEKS . HE HAS A HISTORY OF ANGINA PECTORIS AND IS CURRENTLY TAKING INHALED CORTICOSTEROIDS FOR MODERATE CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE. HE HAS SMOKED ONE AND A HALF PACKS OF CIGARETTES DAILY FOR 45 YEARS. VITAL SIGNS ARE WITHIN NORMAL LIMITS . SCATTERED CRACKED AND WHEEZES ARE HEARD BILATERALLY . HEART SOUNDS ARE NORMAL . ABDOMINAL EXAMINATION SHOWS NO ABNORMALITIES . RECTAL EXAMINATION SHOWS A PALPABLE MASS 2 TO 3 CM INSIDE THE ANAL VERGE. ANOSCOPY SHOWS A 5 -CM ULCERATED MASS; A BIOPSY SPECIMEN OF THE MASS SHOWS ADENOCARCINOMA. WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING IS THE MOST APPROPRIATE NEXT STEP IN MANAGEMENT?

    A COLONOSCOPY TO THE CECUM

    B SIGMOIDOSCOPY

C RADIATION THERAPY TO THE RECTUM

D TRANSANAL EXCISION OF THE TUMOR

E SURGICAL RESECTION OF THE RECTUM.

    IS THE ANSWER A?

I WILL BE POSTING MORE AS I GO THROUGH FORM 7 AND OTHER FORMS YOU MENTIONED YOU DID ALREADY.

    @Princess
Thanks for your question. It would be best if post in the appropriate thread ( there should be an NBME 7 thread - if not, you can always start one!)

Anyways, the answer to your question is most definitely A. Once you see the mass, you need to evaluate the entire colon. You would also be obtaining a CT abdomen/pelvis to further delineate the mass and for surgical planning.

New to this page and have found it tremendously helpful. Thank you all for the content. I am currently preparing for the ck I have read MTB a few times and done uworld a couple times over, as well as nmbe 6 and 7, both 190 equivalent scores. Any particular advice to get over this hump and into a passing score!?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Hi Ernie,

How do I include a step climb when building a flight plan from PANC to VHHX, also when I build that flight plan with FS Build it gives me a 17000 mile flight plan?

Thanks in antsipation of your reply
