Hi there, I have 5 weeks left until my internal medicine shelf exam. I have completed 40% of the UWorld internal medicine questions at this point, using UWorld mainly as a learning tool (not to test myself). Any advice would be appreciated with what the best use of my time would be from now on. Does it make sense to try to do UWorld twice for this shelf exam? If so, I could probably have a second run through the ~1400 questions with 10 days left before the test.
Also does anyone have correct answers for the NBME medicine questions (the 2 sets of 50 questions)?
Other than UWorld questions, I haven't been reading Step Up To Medicine but I have been watching videos to prep.
    Thank you!

You're doing good by using UW. That's the best tool for the shelf IMO. With 5 weeks left, I think you have plenty of time to finish UW. But I think that re-doing them might be overkill.

The only time I would say doing UW twice is worth it is for those people who rushed through it the first time, have enough time, and still have time to read. SUTM is a common resource for students to read. However, I didn't like it a whole lot because it was a lot of superficial bullet points.

If you have less time and can't get through SUTM, FA2 is another reasonable choice for text. OnlineMedEd is a new resource students have been saying is good for step2 and IM shelf review. You can check that out if you want.

As far as the NBME tests, you can post your individual questions in the appropriate thread and they should get answered!

    Good luck

thank you for your advice! I am only getting around a 50% on uworld questions in tutor mode first time around. Is that terrible? With doing these questions I don't have time for much reading (I am dabbling in internal medicine master the boards/Master the boards usmle step 2 CK)....I am hoping that if I do get to the questions a second time around I can reach a 75/80%
I really would like to get an 85% on the actual shelf exam
I just bought the internal medicine medquest videos for a month and they are pretty good....
    Thanks for your help!

@Ballaholic - 50% on UW first pass isn't horrible at all, especially if you haven't seen a lot of the material through your rotations yet (if IM is a early rotation for you, you probably haven't seen peds/obgyn/surgery/psych, all of which may inconspicuously show up on UW).

The key is using the UW questions as a learning tool to read the explanations and understand how/why they're asking the questions.

MTB is a commonly used resource that has received good reviews. I only lightly looked at it because I felt SUTM and FA2 was better for me, but use whatever you're comfortable with at this point. Try to read and do questions to complete the clinical pictures you're learning about. Videos provide an alternate means to hammer home the important points, so it's good you're maximizing use of resources. A word of caution though, I advise against using too many resources as that can sometimes make it more confusing and hard to memorize facts.

    Good luck!

    @Ballaholic,
I think that doing questions is the best way to learn as well. I did the uworld questions for medicine before my shelf as well, and they really helped me for the exam. Instead of doing them twice, I did them once and took notes on my wrong answers as I went along - to create a study guide for me to return to later and quickly study 2-3 days before the test. But since you have so much time still, I think doing a run through them once, scoring 50% and then doing another run is perfectly fine.

Here's something though that @orthopod didn't mention: MKSAP questions. These questions are actually more similar to the IM shelf questions than Uworld. After my exam, in fact, I looked back at both some of the Uworld and the MKSAP questions and found that the questions on my actual test were more identical to MKSAP. Important to note, that this is MKSAP for students (with MKSAP 5 the latest) - different from MKSAP either 15 or 16 or another high number - the latter is for IM residents and their IM board prep. MKSAP for students is plenty enough and more geared towards NBME IM shelf.

    Hope that helps!
